Random Acts of Beauty

Making art everywhere - for no good reason!

Artists living and working at Imagine Art are demonstrating the power of creativity to change systems—beginning with affordable housing. Through Random Acts of Beauty, we place art everywhere, sparking joy and transforming how people experience affordable housing and community life.

This artist-centered initiative supports the professional development of at-risk artists, who are then activated within their own at-risk community for meaningful local impact. In doing so, the project demonstrates that art-making is essential to a healthy and resilient arts ecosystem.

Random Acts of Beauty is a multidisciplinary effort, inviting visual, textile, literary, music, movement, and theatrical artists to celebrate the strengths of the Live+Make community. By providing materials, mentorship, and ongoing support, we are building community capacity and establishing a sustainable rhythm of art-making where artists live and work—embedding creativity into everyday life.

The West Dumpster.

Creating Treasure Where the Trash Is

The fence around the dumpster had begun to weather and fade—it was time for a refresh. We picked up four colors of stain, rolled out the tarps, and began painting. There was no plan and no formal notice.

The artists simply started showing up—Willow, Jesse, Lance, Damien, and Kali. Together, we transformed the dumpster enclosure into a series of vibrant, multi-colored panels. It took two days to complete the base coat, filled with conversation, collaboration, and creative energy.

Damien will be adding his artistic flair to several panels on the east and north sides in the coming days.

We’ll share a final photo once the project is complete!

Building a Base of Beauty

Funding from the Texas Commission on the Arts through the Arts Respond program enabled Imagine Art to employ local mosaic artist Karen Bolton. Karen engaged our community in creating mosaic tiles that form the base of our street sign.

Artists designed and created individual tiles, each reflecting personal expression and shared place. The tiles have been glazed and fired, with installation planned for January 2025.

We look forward to sharing a final photo once the mural is complete!

Concrete Light Posts

Its Whats Next……

Painting Dates: January–February 2026

Multiple artists have been selected to propose design ideas for the concrete light posts located throughout the Live + Make campus. The designs are complete, and we’re simply waiting for the holidays to pass and warmer days to arrive.

When painting begins, artists will be supported by AmeriCorps members as they transfer their designs onto the round concrete posts—turning everyday infrastructure into works of art.

Keep an eye out for mini murals popping up all around campus!
