Peer Support Initiatives in 2024

Channels for Self Advocacy: TCDD provided a mini grant for Imagine Art to partner with Disability Rights of Central Texas and together we produced videos and power points to help self advocates navigate tough situations and difficult systems - such as Medicaid, they Ombudsman’s office, Medicaid Waiver programs and more! See below for our Videos that are posted on You Tube!!

AmeriCorps: The OneStar Foundation provides a Peer Support program branch for our 5th year of AmeriCorps programming. As we complete our 2023-24 AmeriCorps’ Continuation grant, we are seeking ways to further implement peer support activity on our Live+Make campus!

Safe & Department of Justice: We are partnering with Safe for a Department of Justice grant that will hire 1 peer support specialist who has experience in trauma recovery. Together we will be facilitating holistic healing groups for persons with IDD who have experienced violence and trauma.

Texas Storytelling Project: We partnered with Art Spark and applied for a new grant, the Texas Storytelling Project. We are waiting for news on if we will receive this grant. The grant offers opportunity for Imagine Art to facilitate story telling circles - which will be led by peers!

Training 4 Transformation: This project is on hold and being redesigned. Our name was not patented and as a result we must change the name and redesign all materials. We continue to provide some offsite training for T4T and we continue to develop “Level 3” of this program - which will deploy peers to work 1:1 helping others to navigate the community. See below for our Certification Program.

Peer Support Training and Certification Program

Imagine Art provides a self-paced Peer Support Training for individuals who have intellectual or developmental disability labels (I/DD). Peer Support is an opportunity to gather with a group of people who share similar experiences. Peer Support groups are designed to be run by peers for peers, creating a comfortable space to share about thoughts, feelings, frustrations, successes, and what each member wants for their lives.

Currently our curriculum is on hold and being redesigned. Coming soon, Imagine Art will offer this curriculum to individuals and community organizations who are interested in starting up peer support in their own communities.
