Simply known as Pumpkin to everybody around Imagine Art and Clarksville. Paulette Brown has a way of softening everybody’s hearts. Maybe it’s her infectious laughter that leaves people feeling much lighter, or perhaps it’s her determination to make herself understood in spite of her developmental issues. In any case, her choice of art says it all. She types out the Lord’s Prayer on 8.5 by 11 paper using one of two electric typewriters that her brother, Archie, maintains for her. One at home; the other at the IA studio. She uses a hand held magnifying glass to see the small keys and as well as the words she’s typing. At the urging of her AmeriCorps mixed-media instructors, Pumpkin has begun to watercolor designs on paper. This will provide an artistic backdrop for her words. Words, that no doubt, have inspired her a great deal.
