Blog Post Monday March 11th, 2013

I had the privilege to attend a Pastors of Artist retreat at Laity Lodge these past four days. I walked through some personal inadequacies in going. I am not a pastor and yet I pastor. I am an artist yet I am untrained, like most within my community. The culture of the retreat was academic and the room was filled with artists that were educated, well trained and established. The hearts of the people there quickly rose to the surface and I was ‘among friends’, despite how differently we each arrived there.

The topic was Artist, Caretaker of the Imagination. The imagination is a creative vehicle that moves us towards our reality. In essence, it both represents what we think about our reality and it determines it. The big idea was to be intentional about our imagination. We are to care for our imagination, allowing it to shape us as artists and impact those around us.

Each artist walked away with what his or her own heart was ready to hear. I heard “Come, like a child. Rest in me that you might know me. Know me as a master artist knows his craft. Apprentice in me, says the Lord. You are my living work of art, my expression.
